The Second Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from the Thirteen Colonies that started meeting in the summer of 1775, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, soon after warfare in the American Revolutionary War had begun. It succeeded the First Continental Congress, which met between September 5, 1774 and October 25, 1774, also in Philadelphia. The second Congress managed the colonial war effort, and moved incrementally towards independence, adopting the United States Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. By raising armies, directing strategy, appointing diplomats, and making formal treaties, the Congress acted as the de facto national government of what became the United States.

It is hard to imagine life in the 18th. Century.  In the mind 1700's life was harsh compared to today. Homes had no electricity, plumbing or central heating and air conditioning.  No bathrooms or running water.  Newspapers were posted in the village square.  Health conditions were deplorable where every kind of disease imaginable were not unusual.  Infant mortality was high and women died in child birth.  This is the world which gave birth to the uniquely American ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and the American Revolution.

Most of us know the condensed, boiled down and shortened version of the American Revolution which is briefly taught in our public schools these days or at least we should!  The real truth however spans nearly a quarter century as the Colonials in the Continental Congress assembled in Philadelphia who represented the thirteen English Colonies tried desperately to resolve problems with the Royal Crown, King George III before the first shot was ever fired.  

That shot from the North Bridge in Concord Massachusetts upon British Soldiers by Colonials was immortalized in Poem and "The Concord Hymn" by Ralph Waldo Emerson as the "Shot Herd Round The World" - and so began the American Revolutionary War.  The war it self lasted from 1774 until 1783.  War with the English would erupt again in the war of 1812 when Americans had to defend their freedom as a nation.

When we come right down to the time spent by the colonials in obtaining their independence from England the figure is more like fifty years of diplomatic struggles and war fare with the Mother Country.  It was no easy task, but the "Declaration of Independence" was signed by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776 and this is why the day is remembered as the beginning for the United States.

The American Revolution was caused by events that affected both the patriots of America and the loyalists of Britain. Before the American Revolution led to the independence of the 13 colonies of America in the latter half of the 18th century, small upheavals in individual states were seen throughout the country.

The events which spurred this revolution were basically over money; taxation without representation.  King George III, like all the other monarchs of Europe who had established colonies in the Americas were extracting as much wealth from the new world as they possibly could for the purposes of enlarging their own empires.  But not to put to fine a point on the story the following events fired American hostilities against the English:

As we explore the history of the American Revolution we see a growing dissatisfaction with all the crown heads of Europe. American settlers now wished to be free from European domination.  In the end this nation would be free from the French, English, Spanish and Mexican domination to become one nation, the United States. 

In 1773, the British East India Company, a faced trouble. They needed money and they needed to sell an over supply of tea they had. The British Parliament wanted to save the company so they passed the Tea Act. This meant that the company had total control for the tea trade in the American Colonies. The colonists, merchants in particular, didn't like this new act  The Daughters of Liberty didn't want to part with freedom instead they said, “We'll part with our tea.”  The colonists vowed to not let the East India Company unload in their harbors. Even though the East India Company learned of the trouble in the colonies, they continued to ship tea to the colonies. In late 1773, 3 ships called, the Dartmouth, the Eleanor, and the Beaver, came to the Boston Harbor. The royal governor ordered the ships to be unloaded and said they were not allowed to leave. The Boston Sons of Liberty dressed up like Mohawk Indians, and at midnight on December 16, 1773, they threw 342 chests filled with tea off of the ships. After this, the Boston Port Act was passed. It meant that the Boston Harbor would be closed until the tea that was dumped into the harbor was paid for.

One of the events listed above is particularly significant in demonstrating the Colonials contempt with England's growing taxation upon them - The Boston Tea Party!  Since that time the Tea Party has been a symbol for American contempt with unfair taxes and is a movement within our country today!  The Democrats in Congress have spent our country into record debt and continue deficit spending of taxes with plans to raise taxes even higher.

Democrats have many devices at their disposal in their draconian drive to TAX, TAX,TAX! Their methods and agenda is truly despicable.  Raising the minimum wage is now in play. While it helps a few by raising the minimum wage it is highly inflationary hurting all those on fixed incomes; the elderly, the disabled and the unemployed just to name a few.  

It also hurts all Americans because inflation drives all prices higher.  This hike in wadges may help minimum wadge earners in the beginning but in the end when the economy readjusts for inflation, these employees will actually be hurt by higher income and payroll Taxes and higher prices! So who is the big winner in the minimum wadge hike game?  If you've guessed the Democrats and the Government in Washington you are right!  The Government reaps huge tax increases and we are talking in the Billions while the nation suffers at large because of inflation. In some cases hyper inflation!

But how have Democrats in Washington spent such huge amounts of the Federal budget which runs into the trillions of dollars?  Some of the spending is legitimate, however illegitimate spending is afoot!  Primarily in the areas of foreign aid and the support of illegal aliens who have entered into the welfare system with their "Anchor Baby's".

Graft and corruption is also a problem in Washington.  From time to time cases make the news - politicians who have been caught with their hands in the Federal Treasury. Fraud and kick back schemes are still common and those who practice this crime are deploying highly elaborate programs to cover their tracks.  After all they are the Government, who will ever suspect them!  

The Tea Party movement is an American political movement known for advocating a reduction in the U.S. national debt and federal budget deficit by reducing U.S. government spending and taxes. The movement has been called a mix of libertarian, populist and conservative, persons. It has sponsored multiple protests and supported various political candidates since 2009, and demonstrators at the U.S. Capitol celebrated the movement's five-year anniversary in February 2014.
