Now that the “Obama Care” deadline is approaching for all Americans to purchase the “Affordable Health Care” insurance as defined by Congress in the Affordable Health Care Act of 2011, where do we go to buy it and how much will it cost?  At this point the answer to this question is like looking into a black hole to see what’s inside!  It would seem that everyone will be scrambling at the last minute to sell and buy it.

Obama Care or the “Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010” is a 55 page law written by Congress and signed by President Obama mandating that all Insurance companies must offer health insurance to all Americans no matter what their medical history is and that all Americans must be covered by health insurance by 2014.  The following is the table of contents for H.R. 4872  @  https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/111/hr4872/text

As we began to write this article we thought it would be a simple matter of tying up all the loose ends and present a straight forward summery of the facts containing a few charts to illustrate the insurance policies and approximate prices most people could expect to pay along with the insurance companies which would be selling the insurance.  What were we thinking?  As we began our research on the subject we found an endless mountain of information with no clear cut plans or answers.  Only more questions!  Why are we getting the feeling that the serpent has once again entered the “Garden of Eden”?

"Adam and Eve" by the artist Titian.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could go to our favorite Pharmacy or even Seven/11 and buy a prepaid health insurance card, much as we would buy a prepaid phone card or money card, and be on our merry little way.  What were we thinking?  Or maybe an app for our mobile device!  That would make too much sense and be too easy!  It appears we have to go to the gates of Insurance Hell here on earth and negotiate with the Devil to buy this Government mandated health insurance!  As they always say, “the Devil is always in the details”!

Next logical question – will this mean that Doctors and Hospitals have to be more transparent in their billing and services?  Yea right; we wish!  If you ask us, this is where Congress should have legislated some laws to form a pricing base for medical services which could have then set the prices of Health insurance, but NO that’s to logical!  Even though that’s how most business operate in the real world today.  Modern Medicine will still probably be a “ten ticket thrill ride” at a Hospital near you.

The work in Congress is now finished and the President has signed the bill.  It would seem that the only real change is that insurance companies may no longer exclude those with preexisting medical conditions.  Now for the real question – where is the affordability in affordable health care insurance?  We don’t see any real drop in insurance rates; it only seems to be increasing! As of 2014 employers and individuals will have to purchase new plans and every State will offer plans for "Low Income" individuals.  Here in California the program is known as "Covered CA".

Last week, our family received notice from Anthem BlueCross BlueShield of Colorado that we can no longer keep the plan we like because of "changes from health care reform (also called the Affordable Care Act or ACA)." The letter informed us that "(t)o meet the requirements of the new laws, your current plan can no longer be continued beyond your 2014 renewal date."
In short: Obama lied. My health plan died.

Health Insurance providers such as Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente (again; State by State), and other programs such as "Medicare" with their supplemental carriers are ready to give us their high pressure pitches and not disclosing their prices plan by plan making it more difficult to shop for the coverage.  The real truth about our coverage will not come out until we are in the hospital admitting room flat on our back as the administrator informs us that we will receive the bill for the deductibles and additional fees not covered by our insurance!  Again we ask; "What did Congress mean when they said AFFORDABLE"?

So what is happening with "Obama Care" today you may ask?  Well in part he is apologising for it as we see in the article below from the "New York Daily News".  Republicans along with Mitt Romney declared so many problems for Americans with "Obama Care".  Now we are beginning to see the President eat his words along with H.R. 4872!

President Obama says he's 'sorry'
Americans losing health care

If you lost your current health-care plan under Obamacare, you have the President’s sympathies.
President Obama told NBC News that he is "sorry" that he did not keep his repeated promise that anyone who wanted to keep their present insurance plan could do so under the Affordable Care Act.
"I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me," Obama said in the interview, conducted at the White House.

"We've got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and we are going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this," he said.
People who buy insurance on their own are at risk of being booted from their current policies because their plans don't meet the standards of the new law.
Obama has previously argued those affected can buy better, and often cheaper, insurance under Obamacare. But he had failed to address claims by Republicans and even many members of his own party that he mislead Americans in the push to win passage of the Affordable Care Act.

U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell wasted no time in sticking the needle in.
"If the President is truly sorry for breaking his promises to the American people, he'll do more than just issue a half-hearted apology on TV. A great place to start would be to support the ... bill that would allow Americans to do what the President promised in the first place: keep the plan they have and like," he said in a statement.
Before Obama expressed his contrition, the White House announced $150 million in grants to community health centers, including five in New York.

The grants, made under a little known part of Obamacare, represent the first installment of $11 billion set to be doled out to center over five years. They are expected to aid 236 health centers.
New York City recipients include La Casa de Salud, which gets $812,500, and Morris Heights Health Center, which receieves $380,000. Both are in the Bronx.
The announcement comes as Obama and his aides work to reassure Democrats worried the botched launch of the new law will harm the party's chances in the 2014 midterm election.
Obama this week met with all 16 Democratic senators up for reelection next year.

Many worried that the healthcare law contributed to a near upset Tuesday in Virginia where Terry McAuliffe barely edged Tea Party favorite Ken Cuccinelli who emphasized his opposition to Obamacare.

The effects of Obama care are already showing up in the form of inflation.  As the market place is anticipating the rising price of health care insurance coverage, the costs of doing business are being passed along to the consumers as price increases.  Insurance companies are sure to reap a win fall of profits from government mandated health insurance.  How do I opt out?
